About Periyapunamangai
Arulmigu Sri Periyapunamangai Alias Sri Balathiripurasundari Amman temple is situated in the Vaigai river bank of Kodimangalam in Madurai District. Our ancestors were worshipping our Goddess from 11th century. She is 7 to 12 year old vaalai(small child) and she is guarded by Sri Santhana Karuppasami , Sri Sonai Muthiah and other Guardians.
For the past 60 years, we were not able to continue our worship. We were gifted to get back her blessings again from 2011 and thereafter twice a year we continued our pooja whole heartedly. We initially planned to construct temple using concrete, but our child goddess wished that the temple should be a privilege explaining our culture. As our Goddess blessing ,we are raising temple with Stones(Karkovil thirupani) from 2018.
Our Events
New year special pooja for our goddess Arulmigu PeriyaPunamangai is held on Aadi 18. On this auspicious day specific Pooja will be done for Amman. On this day Amman is decorated wonderfully and we need crores and crores of eyes to get her darshan. Vilaku Pooja is held on this day with Bhajans and Sumangali women are provided with Thambulam. After the Pooja Annadhanam happens on a large scale. The next special day we celebrate is Maha Shivaratri on Masi month. On this special day, morning pooja will be held for Arulmigu PeriyaPunamangai. In the evening Vilaku Pooja is held. Then Special Pooja is done for our Kaval Theivangal (Karuppa Samy and Sonai Muthiah) . We will start from our Temple, worship First God Ganesha and then arrive at Vaigai River bank to worship our god. What a pleasant moment it is! In the dark sky a bright star can be viewed. It is our ancestors. After praying the star, we provide padayal to our Kaval Theivangal. At this time the devotees' questions are answered by the God who comes in the person who is more towards the worship(Sami Aadupavar). Here we like to share an exciting moment. Yes, the star mentioned above will stay till our pooja completion. We have witnessed this for the past 8 years. We can't express that moment in words, it is a goosebumps moment
